Water Tower: Locomotive Firing Irons and MR Wall Hooks

Metal firing Irons are used for stoking steam engines and are hung on two MR wall hooks.

These firing irons have been used on the KWVR to stoke steam engines. They were originally from the Manningham Motive Power Depot and were moved to Haworth upon its closure—these range in length and type.

The hooks in which the firing irons are hooked here are original to the water tower and were located to your right (on the Oxenhope wall, where the three poster board screens are today). These would have been used to hang items such as firing irons (when a boiler and steam engine was situated here). We have moved these and repurposed them here to show you what they would have been used for and to give you an idea of the building usage.

The original location of the wall hooks was relocated during refurbishment.
