You may have noticed that there has been a hustle and bustle in Oakworth Goods Yard again after all these years, with a new Midland Railway-type hut appearing at the far side of the yard.

This will be our new tea hut when complete, providing light refreshment and snacks for visitors. The surrounding areas will have seating and displays about the Railway Children films ready for the launch in July. Along with the construction of the new Tea Hut, the yard has been resurfaced, along with other tasks to ensure the 150-year-old yard is safe for visitors.

Work is progressing behind the scenes to open up the original goods yard, complete our new tea hut and provide displays about the Railway Children films ready for July. As part of this, we have carried out some resurfacing work and other tasks to ensure the yard is safe for our visitors. Some of the measures such as crowd control barriers will be temporary until we move on to the next phase.

The Goods Yard & Shed will also be included in the new Oakworth Station Guided Tours, which will be starting after the launch of the new film, Railway Children Return in mid-July.

Our long-term Society Company aim is to allow access to the Goods Shed which is mostly untouched since when it was built by the Midland Railway, this currently houses the LNER steam crane in the dock. Along with a viewing area at the bottom of the yard where visitors will be able to view the trains travelling on the railway, any activity in the Goods Yard and LNER steam crane at gala weekends.
