Get ready for one of the biggest diesel events of the year! The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway is gearing up for its 2025 Diesel Gala, running from Thursday, the 19th, to Sunday, the 22nd of June, and it’s shaping up to be a real treat for diesel fans and families alike.
With a cracking line-up of classic locomotives and a packed timetable of events, there’s something for everyone — whether you’re a lifelong enthusiast or just fancy a fun day out through the beautiful Brontë countryside.
Guest Locomotives
Here’s a taste of what you can expect to see in action:
- Class 37 (Colas Rail) – A modern-day icon best known for working Network Rail’s test trains. It’s set to arrive on Friday and will be running over the weekend.
- Class 47 No. 47714 – Visiting from the Wensleydale Railway, this loco adds some classic Type 4 grunt to the event.
- Class 55 No. 55009 ‘Alycidon’ – A proper showstopper! One of the legendary Deltics, famous for their speed and sound. Not to be missed.
- Class 50 No. 50021 ‘Rodney’ – Another fan favourite, bringing big loco vibes and plenty of power. ‘Watcha Dave’
- Class 47 No. 47715 – Another Brush Type 4 joins the party, giving double the 47 action for Type 4 fans!
- Class 37 No. 37508 – Provided by LORAM, this is expected to be its first passenger-carrying runs in preservation under this identity.
Joining them will be some of the KWVR’s own home fleet, including:
- Class 14 No. D9520
- D2511 Hudswell Clarke Diesel Mechanical Shunter
- D32 Mersey Docks & Harbour Board / Hunslet Diesel Mechanical Shunter ‘Huskisson’
- D0226 Experimental Prototype English Electric Diesel Shunter ‘Vulcan’
What’s On
Loads are happening across the four days, including:
- Intensive Diesel Timetable – Trains running all day, every day. Hop on and ride as much as you like!
- Goods Train Demonstrations – See how goods used to be moved along branch lines back in the day.
- Double-Headers – Two locos at the front = double the noise, double the fun.
- On-Train Bar – Yep, real ale and local brews are served on board while you ride. What more could you want?
- Brake Van Rides — hop aboard for a proper Goods Train Experience
