Tours of Haworth Workshops
Discover the magic, sights, and unmistakable smells of our working Locomotive Works. Get up close to our heritage fleet of steam and diesel engines as your knowledgeable guide shares expert insights and stories from the heart of the railway. Important: For your safety, open-toed shoes are not permitted. Please wear appropriate footwear.
What happens on tour?
These fascinating, behind-the-scenes tours start from the Booking Hall at Haworth Station and last approximately 45 minutes. Tours involve walking on uneven and potentially slippery surfaces and include steps. Unfortunately, this means they are not suitable for those with mobility issues.
What You’ll See:
- Locomotives not currently in service
- The iconic 5775 Pannier Tank from The Railway Children, currently under overhaul
- 90733 WD Austerity, also undergoing restoration
- The original Haworth Stone Shed
- A walkthrough of the working workshop
- The impressive new shed full of both steam and diesel locomotives
- The fascinating Wheel Drop Building, a vital part of our maintenance operations
Tour Details:
- Tours depart from Haworth Station shortly after the train arrives from Keighley.
- Cost: £6.00 per person (free for members)
- Book your place at any Booking Office on the day of your visit.
Bring your camera, bring your questions, and enjoy a unique chance to explore behind the scenes, guided by our friendly and knowledgeable volunteers.

- Group Size: Tours are limited to 16 people and must stay together at all times. Access to the sheds is only permitted for authorised groups on a guided tour.
- Footwear: Open-toed shoes are not permitted. Please wear sturdy footwear.
- Supervision: Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
- Important Note: As this is a working and potentially hazardous environment, tours may need to be curtailed or cancelled at short notice due to operational requirements.

Group Visits to the Haworth Shed
We are happy to arrange visits to the Haworth Shed for groups of 10 or more, by request. To enquire, please get in touch with our administration office at Haworth via email: group.bookings@kwvr.co.uk.

Any specific interests your group has, so our guide can tailor your tour accordingly.
