Steam & Spice

The Steam & Spice dining experience is a signature event of the World Curry Festival 2025, taking place on 27 and 28 September.

The event celebrates 200 years of British rail and explores the historic connection between train travel, empire, and the migration of food. Costumed hosts, ambient music and storytelling will recreate the magic of long-distance journeys — with spice trails replacing steam trails.

Perfect for history lovers, foodies, and experience seekers alike, Steam & Spice invites guests to taste the past and ride into a shared future.

Set aboard historic carriages from the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, this event fuses heritage travel with South Asian fine dining. Guests will embark on a scenic journey through Yorkshire’s countryside while enjoying a curated Afternoon High Tea inspired by the railway kitchens of the British Raj and the Indian subcontinent.
Think cardamom-spiced chai, samosa pastries, railway lamb curry, Anglo-Indian finger sandwiches and sweetmeats — all served in vintage splendour.

Due to the age and delicate nature of the carriages used in Steam & Sprice services, dogs are not permitted to board.

We recognise that these dogs provide valuable assistance for the sight-impaired and those with hearing loss, epilepsy, diabetes, physical mobility problems and more. Assistance Dogs are welcome on ALL KWVR trains, for which no charge is made.

Our historic railway carriages are primarily restored to reflect their original construction; therefore, access is a step up from the platform and down to alight to board the train. This means that the Dining Train carriages are unable to accommodate wheelchair passengers. We can provide a small ramp to aid with limited mobility, but all passengers will be required to walk to their seats along the narrow walkway.

We are unable to offer any dietary options other than those listed, which include Vegan, Vegetarian, or Gluten-Free menus. While we provide a Gluten-Free menu, we are unable to care for any other kind of food intolerance.
