Starlight Hike

A walk under the stars

Get together with family and friends and walk 10km under the stars through the Worth Valley!

Saturday 7th October

A fantastic night for all the family, you are walking under the stars and remembering loved ones. With a 10k route through the surrounding villages of the Worth Valley, entertainment and featuring the incredible Starlight Express train ride, this will be a truly special and memorable night.

By taking part in Sue Ryder Starlight Hike, you’re helping our specialist teams to provide expert care which means the end of people’s lives can be filled with friendship, family and love in their final moments together.

Sadly, almost all of us will experience the loss of a loved one – your support can help more people get the end-of-life care they need and deserve.

Last year, Sue Ryder provided over 830,000 hours of care to thousands of families across the country, including from our Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice.

This is not a public train service; you must be part of the Manorlands Event to travel.

You can find out more information about the Starlight Hike by visiting the Sue Ryder Website here.

The walk will start from Oxenhope Railway Station, Mill Lane, Oxenhope, BD22 9LB, with the first train leaving the station at 7.00 pm and the second and final train leaving shortly after at approximately 7.30 pm.

There will be pre-walk music and stalls to enjoy, with a warm-up and glitter station to prepare you for your walk.

Our route is 10k in distance or 6.2 miles, taking you through the villages and surrounding area of the Worth Valley.

It is difficult to say precisely as people of all ages and abilities participate, but most walkers take a 10k walk in around two hours on average. However, this isn’t a race, so you’re encouraged to take the route at your own pace, and our sweepers will walk behind the last group of walkers.

No. Unfortunately, due to the uneven nature of the walk route, it is not suitable for pushchairs, wheelchairs or mobility vehicles. However, we welcome all to enjoy the music and entertainment provided at the event site. Please email manorlands.fundraising@sueryder.org or call 01535 640430 if you require more information.

Yes, children are permitted to walk but must be accompanied by a legal parent or guardian at all times. Everyone taking part in the walk must complete the registration process before participating. Bikes and scooters are not permitted as the route is on public footpaths. Children’s buggies are, however, permitted.

Well-behaved dogs are allowed at the event, provided they are on a lead and kept under appropriate control at all times. Dog owners are fully responsible for their animals and must clean up after their pets.

Refreshments will be available to purchase at the start of the walk, with water and a snack available for each participant at the halfway point on the route. We’ll also provide additional drinks and goodies for everyone crossing the finish line.

Our suggested sponsorship target is £100 per adult, but we encourage you to raise as much as you can to support our specialist teams so they can provide expert care; which means the end of people’s lives can be filled with friendship, family and love in their final moments together.

You’ll be able to set up an online JustGiving fundraising page after you’ve completed the online registration. We can also help with providing paper sponsor forms, collection tins and any other fundraising items. If you would like any help with your fundraising, just get in touch with the fundraising team on the details below.

Registration is available on the night subject to availability and for an additional charge. This event has sold out in previous years, so we encourage you to sign up in advance wherever possible to guarantee your place.
