This will be, without a doubt, one of the biggest civil engineering projects the railway has undertaken.
The first phase of the Bridge 27 renewal is starting soon, with continued preparation and increased activity in the area. This is so that the Piling process can happen before the summer running season. Designer Cass Hayward has recently provided some artists’ impressions of the Bridge when complete. Key dates and Haworth Station Park access are listed below.
work dates
Sunday 14th to Saturday 20th April – Preperation
Work will take place around Bridge 27; firstly, the drainage in the area will be diverted away from the bridge and pilling areas will be cleared. The Pile Mat will then be installed; this is where the ground is compacted to take the weight of the piling rig and the forces it exerts on the ground. There will be lots of deliveries into the Wydean Weaving car park, but we do not expect any disruption to Wydean Weaving, who is aware.
Work hours are expected to be from 8.00 am until 6.00 pm every day, apart later working on from Sunday 14th and Friday 19th April.
Sunday 12th to Saturday 25th May – Pilling
The 15-meter-deep bridge support foundations will be installed across the two weeks and will be the first major works on the site. The track will be removed on the Sunday evening after the last service and re-instated on the Friday evening. The mid-week service will run between Keighley & Haworth during the works. There will be large deliveries, and concrete wagons being brought into the Wydean Weaving car park, and this might cause slight disturbance to the area but should be short once the lorries are in the car park.
Work hours are expected to be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day, with later times on Fridays and Sundays.
Sunday 1st to Saturday 21st September – The Main Job!
The first two weeks of this period will be spent removing the old bridge and preparing the site for the installation of the new bridge, which will take place on September 14th and 15th. Large vehicles will arrive at the site; some of these will require a police escort due to their size and traffic management over the bridge at Mill Hey to assist with this. The period of traffic management is to be confirmed depending on when the bridge deck will be delivered.
The main distribution will take place over the weekend of 14 & 15th of September when the main bridge lift will take place with the crane and three large HGVs to come to and from Wydean Weaving. This will all require a police escort, and some road closures while this happens. In addition, there will be, at times, blocked access to the River View housing estate as lorries enter and exit Wydean Weaving. These are expected to be in short spells. Pedestrian access is to be maintained at all times.
Work hours are expected to be from 8.00 am until 6.00 pm every day.
