Winter Services

In January & February, there may be frost or snow on the ground but you can still travel through the Worth Valley by steam train or diesel railcar at weekends right through the Winter.

With Santa Steam Specials and Mince Pie Specials now consigned to history, in January and February 2020, until half term, some heritage railways close for the Winter. Here at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, however, we operate steam and diesel railcar services every weekend throughout the winter months, come rain or shine, come snow, frost and cold winter rains.

In fact, when we have had snow in the Valley and the sun comes out in cloudless skies, some would argue that there is no better time to travel by a steam locomotive between Keighley and Oxenhope, with plumes of white steam drifting across the Valley as your train tackles the climb to Oxenhope.

The Saturday Green timetable starts with a diesel departure from Haworth to Keighley at 09.00 with the first steam service at 10.15 from Oxenhope. There are 7 round trips in total with the last one returning from Keighley at 17.15 after darkness has fallen, with the light of the locomotive’s fire reflecting from the steam exhaust.

On Sunday, the Winter Blue Timetable has the first service of the day steam hauled from Oxenhope at 10.15. A second service operates with one of our diesel railcars, offering a two train service throughout the day.

And we don’t let a little bit of snow put us off. We operate in all weathers as long as our visitors can reach the Railway in safety.
