Workshop Tours

Tours of Haworth Workshops

Due the current ongoing situation with COVID-19, although the Railway is now running, Workshop Tours are suspended until social distancing rules are sufficiently relaxed, but we do not anticipate tours will return until well into 2021. Watch out on this website and social media.

When tours do become available you will be able to encounter the excitement and nostalgia of the Locomotive works, with it’s exclusive sounds and smells, get up close to our fleet of Steam and Diesel locomotives with knowledgeable commentary from your experienced guide.

Any, or all, of the current stock may be seen including : Ivatt 2-6-2T 41241, resplendent in its reopening day, Crimson Lake livery, Standard 2 78022 (the latest locomotive to enter traffic), Standard 4 75078, S160 5820, 4F 43924, and Taff Vale 0-6-2T no. 85 from the operating fleet and WD 2-8-0 90733 and Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway 0-6-0 no. 957, ‘Green Dragon’ in ‘The Railway Children’, undergoing restoration and maybe more.

Tours throughout the Spring, Summer & Autumn

These fascinating, behind the scenes, tours start from the Booking Hall at Haworth Station and will last for approximately 45 minutes. The tour involves walking on uneven and slippery surfaces, and includes steps. For this reason, it is not suitable for those with mobility problems. Regretfully open toed shoes are not permitted. Tours are limited to 16 persons. Access to the sheds is only permitted for authorised groups who must remain together at all times.

Please be aware that because this is both a hazardous and a working environment and children under 16, therefore, MUST be accompanied by a responsible adult. Due to yard restrictions and operating requirements tours may have to be curtailed or cancelled without notice.

There is no charge, but we do ask guests to consider making a Gift Aided donation to the KWVR Charity (no 1136853). All donations will go towards the ‘Worth Saving’ Appeal.

Group Booking

We can also arrange for groups of 10+ persons to visit the shed by request our administration offices at Haworth, email: group.bookings@kwvr.co.uk

We will require all the relevant  details including the approximate numbers for the tour, the day your group would like to visit and any special interests you may have that will help your guide make your tour as interesting as possible.

Whether we can accommodate your group will be subject to availability of the guides and, of course, the suitability of access to Haworth Workshops on the day of your visit.

Whatever your request, we will do our best to accommodate your group.
