Vintage Train Sundays

Every Sunday, 9th June - 14th July

2019 will once again see the Railway offering passengers the chance to travel as our forebears did over 100 years ago with our Vintage Train service that will be operating on six successive Sundays during the warmer Spring and Summer months, starting on the 9th June.

On successive Sundays 9th June – 14th July, Vintage Trains will operate using some of our older locomotives and coaches, many of which date back to Victorian times and rarely see public use.

Travelling behind some of our oldest engines will be 4 vintage carriages. These carriages form part of the Railway’s museum collection and include examples from the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Trust (L&YRT) and the Vintage Carriages Trust (VCT).

Vintage Carriages

Our most luxurious carriage, The Old Gentleman’s Saloon is believed to be the oldest passenger coach still in use in the UK. Originally built in 1871 and still running today. You can now follow in the footsteps of the Duchess of Cornwall who travelled in the coach on her visit to the Railway in February 2018.

To travel in this carriage advance booking is required & a delicious serving of strawberries & prosecco is included – BOOK NOW.  For more information about this venerable coach, click HERE.

You will also see carriages such as the stunning Club Car as featured in the popular series, Peaky Blinders. Further carriage details are to be confirmed.

Featuring Locomotives

We will also be running a number of vintage locomotives on Vintage Train Sundays, these include the LNWR ‘Coal Tank’ 0-6-2T 1054 courtesy of the Bahamas Locomotive Society and Taff Vale Railway Class 02 0-6-2T No.85.

All of these services are in addition to our usual steam train services which will continue as normal. Advance booking not required (exc the Old Gentleman’s Saloon).

Restricted Disabled Accessibility

The very nature of the vintage carriages fleet is that the coaches come from an age where access for disabled passengers was not a priority and therefore, as the vehicles are restored to their original condition, those wishing to travel on board our vintage train and have a disability may have difficulty boarding the train.

In addition, those disabled passengers with wheel chairs or motorised ‘buggies’ should be aware that the nature of the coaches means there is nowhere to store either wheelchairs or ‘buggies’ on the train. Please speak to a member of station staff who may be able to assist.

Children’s pushchairs and buggies

The vintage coaches that make up the Vintage Train were built in age when children’s pushchairs and buggies were a thing of the future and, as the vehicles that make up the train are restored to their original condition, there is no provision on the train to store them whilst you enjoy you journey back in time. Please speak to a member of station staff who may be able to assist.
