Flying Scotsman at Ingrow West

'Scotsman' at Ingrow, 1st & 2nd April 2017

Flying Scotsman will be in steam and on display at RAIL STORY, Ingrow between 9.00am and 6.00pm, 1st & 2nd April 2017.

The world’s most famous steam locomotive ‘Flying Scotsman’ is to make an appearance at the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway from the 1st April until 9th April 2017.

Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd April.

At Ingrow West Station on Saturday 1st & Sunday 2nd April ‘Flying Scotsman’ will be on display and in steam in Ingrow Station Yard.

The Ingrow Station site will only have pedestrian access or visitors should travel by train from one of the other KWVR stations as the entrance to the car park and yard from South Street / Halifax Road will be closed for vehicular access, as car parking will be suspended for the weekend.

Standard tickets will give you travel to and from Ingrow and access to Ingrow Yard to view the locomotive from the public area or, for an additional charge, enjoy the “Flying Scotsman Experience”

“Viewing Flying Scotsman”

Flying Scotsman will be in steam and on display at Ingrow West between 09.00 and 18.00. Entry to Ingrow yard will require a special day ticket to be purchased and will include unlimited travel on our steam trains between Oxenhope and Keighley.

Tickets for entry and travel should be purchased on the day and will include viewing the locomotive from the public area and entry to the Museum of Rail Travel and Ingrow Loco Museum. Passenger services behind our own steam locomotives will operate daily from 08.30 – 18.30.

Please note advance booking is NOT necessary to come and see Flying Scotsman whilst on static display at Ingrow..

Price includes:

♦  Railway’s Rover ticket (enjoy travel to and from Ingrow Station and along the Worth Valley branch throughout the day)
♦  Entrance to the Ingrow site including Ingrow Loco Museum and Museum of Rail Travel (Museum voucher)

Tickets for travel and entry to the Ingrow West site on the day will be as follows:

  • £20 Adults.
  • £17 concessions (Senior citizens, and KWVRPS Members).
  • £10 children 5-15.

“Flying Scotsman Experience”

The “Flying Scotsman Experience” allows access to the locomotive itself and includes a 15 minute interpretive talk about the loco followed by a walk through the cab and, if you so wish, the tender, following in the footsteps of generations of enginemen who passed through on their journey at speed from Kings Cross to Edinburgh.


Tickets for the “Experience” are for specific time slots at 20 minute intervals between 09.00 and 17.40.

The whole Experience will last up to 40 minutes and you must ensure you arrive at the Ingrow event site in time for the start of your Experience. Please note that if you turn up late you may not be able to join the Experience part way through, or join a later Experience as spaces on the talks and cab visits are limited.

On purchase, the purchaser will receive a booking reference number. On the day of the visit, the reference number is to be presented to the booking clerk at any station who will print out the appropriate tickets. Members / Local Residents will need to bring their valid membership card / residents card in order to collect the tickets. Do not lose your reference number as this is essential for getting your tickets on the day. 


During the 2 days of the Ingrow event we will be offering full catering facilities from breakfast to lunch plus light snacks in between:


    • Full English Breakfast: 2 bacon, 2 sausages, egg, mushrooms, beans, tomatoes, black pudding.
    • ‘Lighter’ Breakfast: 1 bacon, 1 sausage, egg, mushrooms or beans or tomatoes
    • Vegetarian Option: a vegetarian option will be available

Plus our normal morning fare:

  • Bacon sandwich
  • Sausage  sandwich
  • Bacon and Sausage sandwich
  • Egg sandwich
  • Bacon, Sausage and Egg sandwich


    • Lasagne served with garlic bread and side salad
    • Meat & Potato Pie, mushy peas and gravy
    • Chicken Curry and Naan Bread

Jacket potato served with a selection of fillings:

  • Chilli con carne
  • Baked beans
  • Tuna mayo
  • Cheese
  • plain with butter

Light Snacks:

Sandwiches, Quiche and assorted cakes, biscuits and confectionary … and of course soft drinks, teas and coffees.

And for those wanting something a bit stronger, there will be a bar on site serving real ale, wines and spirit.


Ingrow Station and the Ingrow Yard area will only be accessible by taking a train from one of the other KWVR Stations and alighting at Ingrow West. The car park will be closed on both these days and pedestrian access is suspended for the weekend.

Car Parking

Visitors, not arriving on the Railway at Keighley, are advised to either park at Oxenhope, where there is free parking in the station area and an overflow car park a short walk away, or we are operating a free park and ride scheme at Penistone Hill to Oxenhope which will be clearly signed, just follow the AA signs that will be in place over the weekend.


Throughout the weekend there will be refreshments served at Ingrow West, you will find hot food as well as light snacks and a real ale bar.  Before or after your Flying Scotsman Experience you can choose from  Full English Breakfast or hot sandwiches in the morning or if you are arriving for lunch there will be a large selection of hot food including lasagne, jacket potatoes (with a variety of toppings)  as well as cold sandwiches. This will all be freshly prepared on the day and served by our experienced catering volunteers.  Hot and cold drinks will be available from the catering stalls or if you fancy a real treat you can enjoy a real ale from the brewery bar.  Food will be served throughout the day until 6pm.
