Carols and readings at stations along the Valley!
Saturday 14th December | 7.00pm | Oxenhope – Keighley return|
The event which, over two decades ago featured on a festive edition of BBC Songs of Praise is our annual event that brings the real meaning of Christmas to the Worth Valley.
The evening begins at 19.00 with carols at Oxenhope station. Passengers then travel by steam train, stopping at all principal stations for accompanied by Hall Royd Brass Band. At each stop, passengers – including the band – will alight to sing carols, hear part of the Christmas story read by church members and join in prayers. A real ale bar is available on the train and a complimentary pie and pea supper is served at Keighley.
On arrival at Keighley, in the past, members of several Yorkshire choirs performed some unaccompanied pieces. The evening culminates with a return train ride non-stop back to Oxenhope.
Tickets are now on sale priced at
- Adults (all ages 16 and over) – £25.50
- Children – £12.75
In 1992, the BBC recorded the Carol Service train for their popular Sunday programme, ‘Songs of Praise’. It’s 27 years since this programme aired on the BBC. Many of the then youthful faces (now showing the passage of time) are are still to be found on the KWVR but, sadly, some of those have since pass away and are sorely missed on the Railway.
