Diesel & Mixed Traffic Gala | Friday 3rd May – Monday 6th May
The diesels are returning…
The Event will take a different format to usual with the first two days seeing all services hauled by home and visiting Diesel Locomotives, many from around the country.
Many visitors won’t remember steam traction, so the Diesel Gala brings back memories of these heritage machines that worked right from the end of steam right up until recent memory – and in some cases continue to do so!
On the Sunday & Monday of our Event, our home fleet of Steam Locomotives will then come out to play for a mixed traffic theme.
As part of the intensive timetable, evening trains are planned to be running. This will include plenty of Express and Shuttle trains as well as special late night trains running on Saturday night.
Each of our main sets will include a Real Ale bar serving a selection of Real Ale from local breweries, with hot and cold drinks also being served for you to enjoy during your journey with us.

Prototype HST Locomotive, 41001
We are delighted to announce with thanks to the National Railway Museum and 125 Group (subject to final contract) that the unique Prototype HST locomotive, 41001, will headline our event! In addition, 41001 will haul a prototypical MK3 train, bringing 5 coaches with her. We are especially excited to introduce this visiting engine to the Diesel & Mixed Traffic Gala as it is the only one of its kind in the world and is famous for smashing the UK rail and world diesel speed record in 1973 at 143.2mph. The engine was developed to have faster acceleration and cruising speed with its aerodynamic front and was one of the most innovative creations of its time.
We are also delighted to welcome two class 50 locomotives thanks to The Class 50 Alliance Ltd.
The group own or are custodians of six Class 50 diesel electric locomotives (007, 031, 033, 035, 044, 049). Following on from the visit of 50 035 in Summer 2018, current plans are for 50 031 ‘Hood’ and 50 049 ‘Defiance’ to visit us for the Gala BUT please note this could change as plans are not fully confirmed. Being mainline certified, ‘Defiance’ will provide the traction for the convoy of locomotives and coaches planned to attend the event.

As we get closer to the event, a full list of Diesels and Steam Locomotives that will run during our Mixed Traffic days will be announced via our social media channels.
During the event we will have a selection of trade stalls operating over the weekend and are as follow:
Bufferbeam – The Bufferbeam team will be joining us from Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th of May. They will be based at Oxenhope Platform selling a range of Railway Memorabilia ranging from Polo-shirts to Mugs.
GDMK Images – The GDMK team will be joining us from Friday 3rd to Monday 6th of May, they will be located at Ingrow-West and will have a range of railway art and pictures on canvas. They also sell a range of key rings, coasters, mugs and more as well as a full range of printed and embroidered clothing.
As well as the normal railway catering in Oxenhope & Keighley Buffet we will also have Hayes Catering joining us for the whole weekend with a Lincolnshire sausage stand at Keighley and a delicious burger van at Ingrow-West Station so you’ll have plenty of choice when it comes to dinner time.
Whilst every effort will be made to ensure that the advised motive power is available, the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway reserve the right to change this when operational circumstances so dictate.
