It seems like only a few weeks ago that we were advising everyone of the locomotives for the first weekend of the Summer timetable with daily running and the vintage Haworth – Oxenhope tour bus, and here we are now giving details of the last weekend when the tour bus runs and the last week of steam hauled weekday trains. This summer has not been without its challenges with steam struggling to hold its place at the head of our trains with the searing sun’s rays scorching the lineside grasses and making grass fires a real risk. Thankfully the KWVR faired better than many similar lines and we were able to run most of our trains steam hauled.

For this final week of all week running we will have 4 steam locomotives in operation. The weekend steam service starts with BR Standard 4MT 4-6-0 75078, continuing on from this weeks weekday service. 75078 will haul 4 of the day’s services before handing over to USATC S160 2-8-0 5820 that will be at the head of the last Oxenhope – Keighley – Oxenhope service and, also, that evening’s Haworth Haddock.

5820 continues on Sunday and will be joined by LNWR 0-6-2T ‘Coal tank’ 1054, courtesy of the Bahamas Locomotive Society at Ingrow,  hauling 3 suburban coaches, making an interesting contrast to the corridor coaches behind 5820.

The diesel services on Saturday will be handled by our Class 101 diesel multiple unit.

5820 and 1054 retire on Sunday evening to be replaced by the Railway’s iconic red Ivatt 2-6-2T 41241 hauling 3 BR mark 1 corridor coaches for the last week of every day steam trains.

On Saturday the first train departs Oxenhope (diesel railcar) at 09.00 with steam locomotive trains operating from 11.00 and on Sunday, the first passenger service is steam hauled at 10.15. Weekday services start at 10.00.

In addition the vintage tour bus will be in operation every day.
