Our 2018 season of Beer and Music related events kicks off on Saturday 14th April with ‘Nunlow’s Nightcap’, an afternoon and evening service using the well loved locomotive no. 1704 ‘Nunlow’.
Built in 1938 by Hudswell Clarke & Co. Ltd, of Leeds, ‘Nunlow’ worked at the G & T Earle Cement Manufacturers works at Hope in Derbyshire until 1964 before being replaced by diesels. Purchased in 1969 by the Bahamas Locomotive Society (BLS) the engine moved Ingrow in 2003 when the BLS took over the old Midland goods shed. After overhaul the locomotive returned to steam in 2008 and could occasionally be seen at work on Worth Valley trains, especially on Gala weekends.
However in 2018, 10 years will have passed since that overhaul, so 14th April will mark its final weekend in traffic ready for another overhaul to begin.
To celebrate ‘Nunlow’s 10 years of sterling service, Bridgehouse Brewery will be taking over the bar for this event and, in the true KWVR beer related events tradition, will be brewing a one off special ale, ‘Nunlow’s Nightcap’, to be served at this event. Of course alongside this special brew, they will be serving a selection of the brewery’s regular ales! Hot food will be available at Keighley with live music from the great cover band, Wired performing a set roughly between 18:20 and 19:00.
The first ‘Nunlow’s Nightcap’ departs Oxenhope at 16.10 and the evening fishes with the 20.55 from Keighley. For the full timetable click HERE>>>
