Vintage Trains 2018

Every Sunday 8th July - 5th August 2018

2018 will once again see the Railway offering passengers the chance to travel as our forebears did over 100 years ago with our Vintage Train service that will be operating on several Sundays during the warmer summer months.

On successive Sundays 8th July – 5th August, Vintage Trains will operate using some of our older locomotives and coaches, many of which date back to Victorian times and rarely see public use. Step back in time in the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Club Car when courtesy and luxury went hand in hand.

These carriages form part of the Railway’s museum collection and include examples from the Vintage Carriages Trust (VCT) and the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Trust (LYRT).  They have been beautifully restored and opportunities to travel in them are very rare indeed.  Many of them have even featured in film and TV period drama productions.

Trains may include both the LYRT Club Carriage and the First Class compartment coach, no. 279, the latter only launched into traffic in 2017 after many years of painstaking restoration. To travel in either of these vehicles, a 1st Class Supplement will apply.

The equally vintage Steam Locomotives, Taff Vale Railway 0-6-2T no. 85 is scheduled to haul these services in 2018. This locomotive was built in 1899 by Neilson Reid & company at its Hyde Park Works in Glasgow for the Taff Vale Railway.

Here’s a snapshot by Steaming Around Yorkshire of our Vintage Trains Sunday on the 3rd July 2016.

There’s no need to pre-book your tickets – just purchase them on the day of travel.

On the occasion of the Vintage Train, there may also be a Brass Band at Oxenhope or Keighley to add to the atmosphere.
