2018 Beer & Music Festival

Thursday 18th October - Sunday 21st October

This popular event will be returning in October 2018 and we will again be tickling the taste buds with approximately 160 beers (mostly real ales) from all over the country to choose from. Cider and wine drinkers will also be able to have their thirst quenched with a wonderful selection of fine wines and ciders. We will also have a selection of artisan gin available at Oxenhope and a ‘Cocktail & Gin Shack’ available at Ingrow. Add in Music in the Exhibition Hall at Oxenhope and in the marquee at Ingrow and the stage is set for another excellent Keighley & Worth Valley Railway Beer and Music Festival.

It wouldn’t be a KWVR Beer and Music Festival without our sponsors and special thanks go to them, whose support allows us to stage this event. For 2018 our sponsors are:

Event Overview

From Thursday 18th October through to Sunday 21st October, the Railway is transformed into a 5 mile beer Festival with bars at Oxenhope, Ingrow and Keighley as well as on our steam trains. Please note that on the Thursday only our Oxenhope venue will be open and our main on-train bars will not be operating. Detailed information on what is available, when and where is shown below. At this event there are no bars available at Damems, Oakworth or Haworth.

The main festival site is at Oxenhope Station in the Exhibition Hall, where there is the main Festival bar with 100 different cask conditioned beers, both local and from all around the country. Alongside the main bar we are joined by 4 brewery bars, namely main event sponsors Kirkstall Brewery from Leeds, local Keighley brewers Bridgehouse and Goose Eye and from further afield Brass Castle from Malton. We plan to have approximately 130 beers (mainly real ales) available at Oxenhope alone. However this Festival is not just for the beer drinkers out there, we have something for everyone. There is a specialist Cider bar at Oxenhope stocking 25-30 different ciders from all over the UK, including draught ciders on keg and some very drinkable fruit ciders. And we don’t leave out wine or gin drinkers; there will be a wine & gin bar provided by Martinez Wines of Ilkley, selling a fine selection of their white, red and rose wines along with the odd bottle of prosecco and artisan gins!

We will also have bars at Ingrow. Old Spot Brewery will be in residence with their range of cask conditioned ales, local Keighley brewers Wishbone Brewery be joining us with a range of CAMRA approved real ale served from KeyKegs and Nomadic Beers from Leeds will be joining us for the first time with a selection of their cask beers. Also to be found at Ingrow will be a joint cider/perry and lager bar featuring a range of cider/perry provided by Premium Drinks of Bingley and 4 different lagers brewed by Freedom Brewery of Staffordshire. A ‘Cocktail & Gin Shack’ provided by Bronte Bars and Events will also be available at Ingrow. Please note that the bars at Ingrow will not be open on Thursday. Vegan or vegetarian customers may care to note that all the beers from Wishbone, Nomadic and Freedom are vegan friendly.

Bingley Brewery will also be joining us at Beer and Music and their bar on platform 4 at Keighley will be open between 1100 and 2030 on Friday & Saturday

Most trains will have bars throughout the weekend. On Thursday we will be offering a limited bar service from the guards van of our diesel railcar operating on this day. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday the Railway’s normal on-train real ale bar will be part of ‘The Ossett Brewery Express’, stocking beers from the Ossett Brewery group – specifically ‘Black Voodoo’ from Fernandes in Wakefield, ‘Yorkshire Blonde’ from Ossett and ‘White Rat’ from Rat in Huddersfield.

Again on Friday, Saturday and Sunday the Railway’s Jubilee Bar Car will be coupled into the second titled train ‘The Kirkstall Three Swords’ offering beers from our main event sponsors, Kirkstall Brewery from Leeds, including their thirst quenching pale ale ‘Three Swords’.

There will be live music at Oxenhope from Friday to Sunday, where approximately 15 bands will perform with a wide range of genres, from pop and rock to jazz and country – there’s sure to be something for everyone. Please note there is no live music on the Thursday at Oxenhope.

There will also be a range of live music at at Ingow on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday there will be entertainment for all the family, with live music, a children’s entertainer and other children’s activities.

Food will be available from external food vendors at both Ingrow and Oxenhope during all event opening hours for each site. There will be a vegan food stall available at Ingrow. .

The station buffet located on the platform at Oxenhope will also be open during the daytime on all 4-days serving hot & cold drinks and a range of hot and cold food options (including pie & peas).

The station buffet on platform 4 at Keighley will be open until 16.00 on Friday, Saturday & Sunday selling hot & cold drinks and a selection of sandwiches and snacks. An external food vendor will be located on platform 4 at Keighley from 1100 to 2030 on Friday and Saturday.

Drink Tokens

Like many other similar events, drink sales will be by token and not cash. The main festival bar at Oxenhope, brewery bars at Oxenhope, Ingrow & Keighley, cider bars at Oxenhope & Ingrow, the wine & gin bar at Oxenhope and on-train bars will all accept tokens. Each drink token is ½ a pint of beer or cider so you’ll require 2 tokens for a pint. Wine can be purchased in measures of 125ml, 175ml or by the bottle and the number of tokens required will be advertised at the event.

Please note specially that the ‘Cocktail & Gin Shack’ at Ingrow will be cash only and drink tokens will not be valid at this bar.

Individual Drink Tokens: £1.80 or 6 tokens: £10.00

Drink tokens will be on sale at Oxenhope, Ingrow & Keighley at various points at each location. There is a card machine in the shed at Oxenhope to allow you to purchase drink tokens on your credit/debit cards. Both on-train bars will also sell drink tokens.

Drink tokens will be valid for all 4-days of the event, so if you have tokens left over on one day they can be used on any of the other days. Do make sure you do not buy too many tokens as they can’t be used after this event and are strictly non-refundable.

If you do find yourself with any left-over tokens they can be donated to our nominated charity – Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice in Oxenhope.

Note: The railway does not have a cash machine at any of the stations. Nearest cash machines to our stations are:
Keighley: ASDA supermarket, 3 min walk from Keighley station

Think 21

The Railway operates the ‘Think 21’ policy with regard to the sale and consumption of alcohol. If you are lucky enough to look under 21 you will be asked to prove that you are at least 18 years of age, so please ensure you bring appropriate ID with you. Please do not be offended if asked; if only we were all lucky enough to still look young! We will have a stock of ‘Age Verified’ wristbands to avoid you getting asked for ID on multiple occasions.

Dogs

Well behaved dogs are welcome at the event and on our trains, subject to their owners ensuring that their dogs do not cause a distraction to the operation of the train or inconvenience and difficulties to other customers. In addition dogs are not allowed onto carriage (or any other) seats.

Please bear in mind that the event can get VERY busy at times and some music can be very loud. Please consider your dog’s wellbeing and do not bring it along if crowds or loud music may distress it.

Our Volunteers

The Beer and Music Festival, along with all activities on the Railway, are brought to you by our volunteers who give up their free time to organise and run this event and all the operational and maintenance activities which allow our trains to run.

We always need more volunteers, so if you are interested in joining us please see the ‘Get Involved’ page for more information.
