Diesel Gala 2011

The 2011 Diesel Gala will be held from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th June. Whilst we acknowledge that this date is not the best possible date in the diesel enthusiast calendar, a wide variety of events on the Railway and the local area, the school holidays, bank holidays and the availability of volunteer resources all mean that other suitable dates are not available. We hope many of you will be able to support us once again. Put this date in your diary now!

Originally from separate units, the picture shows 51803 nearest the camera whilst working in its final days with First North Western in 2003. 51189 was withdrawn from traffic in 2000, before this photo was taken. The KWVR will be the first place these two vehicles have worked together.

Locomotives -

20031 and 25059 are both available for traffic.

Units - The Class 108 DMU and the Railbus are both available for traffic.

Operating Schedule -

Weekend diesel services for September are booked to be worked by the Class 108 DMU.

The next booked workings for diesel locomotives will be over the beer festival weekend in October.

Repair & Restoration Updates

Class 101 (51189)

Progress on this vehicle continues. On Sunday 18th July 2010 the vehicle was lifted to allow replacement wheelsets to be fitted to the Keighley end bogie, which was fitted with temporary accommodation ones to allow movement. Pictures of the lift are now available by clicking the picture below. Some work still remains including the fitting of a replacement engine and new springs. Click on the picture below to see pictures of the vehicle on as work progresses, as well as pictures taken before work started last year! .

Shunter D226 "Vulcan"

Since the last report, work has continued on the restoration of our unique locomotive, D226. A further report is now available by clicking on the picture above.

Class 101 (51803)

This vehicle has been released from the VCT Workshops at Ingrow, and looks splended inside and out. There are some minor finishing touches to the cab to do, and a new set of batteries require fitting.
